IWR6843: Use of IWR6843 mmWave sensor applications for people tracking and heart and respiration tracking

Part Number: IWR6843

Hi, we are interested in the IWR6843 mmWave sensor applications for people tracking and heart and respiration tracking, and have a number of applications where we need to both track one to 4 people and simultaneously monitor their individual vital signs

After reviewing the TI demos for Building Occupancy Detection Using mmWave and Vital Signs With People Tracking (ti.com).and think it would meet many of our needs
We have some questions related to these which we hope you can help with:
1. Is there an updated  TI chipset that performs better in this application - if possible, we would like to achieve higher person positional accuracy, and also if possible some understanding of a person's pose (lie, sit, stand, etc)
2. The demo apparently takes 20 secs for vital signs to stabilise with the person in front of sensor.  Is there an updated demo or library that can begin tracking the vital signs faster, and do this over a wider field of view?
3.We would be interested in purchasing white label commercial units and customizing them to our needs, Can anyone point us to possible manufacturers who have done this and have units available?
4. Is there a TI Salesperson who is specifically  supporting radar products in Australia that anyone is aware of?
Any help appreciated.
Regards Michael
  • Hi Michael,

Just a heads up I have edited your post to hide your personal information since this is a public forum.

    1. Currently the best TI radar for this would be the IWR6843 or IWR6843AOP.

    2. There is a configuration parameter which is the window size for the input data to the vital sign algorithm. By default the size is set to 300 frames, which with an 80ms frame period, comes out to 24 seconds. You may be able to reduce the window size and get the vitals data faster though it is not recommended to change this value as it is the only value that has been tested.

    3. Please refer to our mmWave Third Party Search Tool

    4. At the moment this forum is going to be your best spot for getting support regarding our mmWave radar devices.

    Best Regards,

    Josh
