AWR2944EVM: E2E Troubleshooting Guide for Data Extraction from AWR2944EVM using DCA1000EVM

Part Number: AWR2944EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM, AWR2944

Dear Support Team,

I hope you are doing well.

I am currently trying to extract data from an AWR2944EVM using a DCA1000EVM. I've installed the requisite mmWave Studio, FTDI drivers, and MATLAB runtime. I've connected the two modules with a Samtec ribbon cable and set the SOP mode of AWR2944EVM to SOP 2 by physically closing SOP 0 and SOP 1. Additionally, I've powered both modules, connected an Ethernet cable to DCA1000EVM, and attached the FTDI port and XDS port on the AWR2944EVM to my PC. I subsequently launched mmWave Studio.

However, I encountered an issue when attempting to connect the COM port of Application/User UART to RS232. An error message stating "Connection failed: calling_connectTarget returned 3" appeared. I would greatly appreciate any guidance on resolving this issue.

Thank you for your time and support.

Sincerely,

Sepideh

  • Hello Sepideh,

Which mmwave studio version have you installed?
Also, can you close any other application in the background and just keep the mmwave studio running?

  • Hello Saswat,

Thank you for your reply. The version I'm trying to use is mmWave Studio 03.01.01.00. I will close other applications in the background to see if it works.

My understanding is the version I'm using, supports AWR2944EVM with DCA1000EVM for extracting raw data. But, I also saw in other questions that some one mentioned AWR2944EVM is supported just only by mmWave_mcuplus_sdk. Is this true? I would appreciate your thoughts on this matter. Many thanks.

    Sincerely,

    Sepideh

  • Hello Sepideh,

The DCA100EVM+AWR2944 is for only extracting the raw ADC data.
The mmwave mcuplus SDK is the entire software, which has the various drivers and demo application in which the RAW ADC data is processed on chip to get the range, angular and other estimation as form of point cloud which is fed over the UART to the demo visualizer.
It purely depends on your use case. For more information on the mmwave mcuplus sdk you can download the same, go through the user guide to run the demo.

    Regards,
    Saswat Kumar
