TMAG6180-Q1: application in magnetic ruler

Part Number: TMAG6180-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMAG6180-6181EVM

There is a AMR position sensor of KMXP2000 that is able to be using on the magnetic ruler end equipment. Beside, does TI have similar solution? is TMAG6180 workable?

https://www.farnell.com/datasheets/3970255.pdf

Below is how to setup the magnetic sensor in the magnet field. How TMAG6180 works with this setup?

  • Brian,

We have not encountered many user's looking to implement the TMAG6180 in this way yet, but we have run a crude preliminary test with the device mounted alongside a magnetic strip tape mounted to a motion controller.

Using a tape with 2mm pitch we were able to observe the following as the mover drove along a 60 mm distance while using the TMAG6180-6181EVM

We see a fairly linear response with the main source of non-linearity coming from the acceleration of the mover as it began moving from a stopped condition.

The PCB was mounted above the magnetic tape with a very small air gap

    Thanks,

    Scott
