IWRL6432BOOST: Industrial Visualizer Can't Send Config to EVM

Part Number: IWRL6432BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, IWRL6432

For context, I am currently trying to run the Presence and Motion demo on the industrial visualizer. I've flashed the appimage onto the EVM using Uniflash, and I selected the presencedetect.cfg file for the config file. However, the console continues to flash the following error when I try and start the visualizer.

ERROR: No data detected on COM Port, read timed out
Be sure that the device is in the proper mode, and that the cfg you are sending is valid

I'm not really sure as to why I keep getting this error. The EVM should be in the right mode, and I'm using a given config file. I'm also using the right COM port. I'd appreciate any answers/help anyone may have.

  • Hi,

Which particular app image are you flashing, and from which SDK version? Start by reflashing the appimage.

Which version of the radar toolbox are you using?

Have you flipped the switch on the device to go to functional mode after flashing the device?

  • I'm flashing the motion_and_presence_detection_demo.release.appimage file from the radar toolbox examples. I also have the same named file in the SDK version 5.02. I'm also using the radar toolbox version 1.10.00.13, and the switches should be flipped to functional mode.

  • Hi,

Can you show me a screenshot of your device manager and point out which COM port you are using? I'd like to double check that.

You have IWRL6432 and Out of Box Demo selected in the GUI correct?

    Two things to try:

    1. Try using the motion/presence detection appimage from the SDK under SDK\examples\mmw_demo\motion_and_presence_detection\prebuilt_binaries

    2. Try also using the .cfg files from SDk under SDK\examples\mmw_demo\motion_and_presence_detection\profiles

    3. Can you try running the SDK visualilzer to see if that works? SDK\tools\visualizer\Low_power_visualizer_5.2.0.2

Let me know your results and we will go from there.

    Regards,

    Tim

  • Hey Tim,

I should be using the correct COM ports, and I've added the screenshots to this reply. I also have he IWRL6432 and Out of box demo selected in the GUI.

I tried those 3 suggestions, and I've still had no luck. I'm still getting the error on the industrial visualizer, and the SDK visualizer never starts after sending the config. It looks like it just froze. I've also attached a screenshot of what it looks like.

    Thanks for all your help,

    Ben

  • Hi Ben,

Does the terminal for the SDK visualizer say anything specific or throw any errors after you send a configuration file?

Also, can you please provide a picture of your EVM, and also one with a close up of the IWRL6432 chip itself? I would like to know which Rev of our EVM you are using.

    Regards,

    Tim

  • Hey Tim,

I'm not seeing any errors after the commands sent using the config file. Here are the pictures of the EVM and the IWRL6432 chip.

    Thanks,

    Ben

  • Hi Ben,

This device may have been from a bad batch of EVMs. Can you confirm when you ordered and received it?

In the meantime you could try flashing another 6432 demo such as Gesture Recognition and seeing if that works with our Industrial Visualizer.

    Regards,

    Tim

  • Hey Tim,

The board was shipped on 7/3/2023. I'll try flashing another demo like you suggested.

    Thanks,

    Ben

  • Hi Ben,

Some of the EVMs in that batch were defective.

Someone else from our team has reached out to help replace the defective board.

    Regards,

    Tim

  • Hi Tim,

I did receive that email. Thanks for all of your help!

    Thank you,

    Ben

  • Please advise how do we tell our EVM is defective?  We just bought a unit and same, unable to connect to the Visualizer.  It doesn't provide option to send a configuration.

  • Hi Rob,

I will reach out to you offline regarding your issue.
