LDC0851: increasing the sensing distance of a stacked design sensor

Part Number: LDC0851

Hello, I have an LDC0851EVM board with a 20mm Inductor attached.

Testing with this I only get a switching distance of about 4mm max, with a large amount of aluminium as teh target, basedon the datasheet I was expecting a bit more.

Is there a way to increase this distance with a new Inductor/reference design?

Would increasing the distance from LSENSE to LREF (PCB thickness) help, if I made this much bigger would the detection distance increase?

If I changed to a "racecourse" shape would this increase the disatnace?

If I fitted the reference facing into free space would this increase the distance?

Kind Regards,

Luke
