AWR2243: questions about FM_CW_SYNC

Part Number: AWR2243

Hi team,

A few questions about FM_CM_SYNC:

- Are the signals always present or only present during a transmission period?

- Can the amplitude of the sync be controlled?

- What are the options for mitigation of excess emissions at the 20 GHz sync frequency?

Thanks,

Jacob

  • Hello Jacob,

Forwarding this to a team member. We will respond in 24 hours.

  • Hello,

Yes, the 20GHz SYNC is only on when the synthesizer is active.

    No, it cannot be controlled.

You can minimize the emissions by some combination of either

         1. bury the trace on an inner layer

         2. use shielding or absorbers to cover the trace and devices

         3. minimize the length of the routing and make sure that the routed length is not equivalent to some multiple of the wavelength.

    Regards,

    Adrian

  • (1) Would you please confirm if the 20 GHz synthesizer is ALWAYS on (including idle time between the chirps and the idle time between frames)?
    (2) Take a look at this TI API .  It talks about turning off TX, RX an LO distribution to save power. Would you please confirm if the 20GHz signal would be active outside the master AWR2243 chip when the LO distribution block is disabled? Our concern is if the 20GHz LO signal is active on the board during idle times.

    Thanks,

    Zhaohong

  • With the dynamicpowersave turned on, what is the behavior of the FM_CW_SYNCOUT and FM_CW_CLKOUT signals during the inter-frame time?

    Thanks,

    Bob

  • Hello,

    Sorry for the delay.

During interframe time, the 20GHz LO is ALWAYS disabled.

During interchirp time, if dynamic power save is enabled and idle time is >10us, then 20GHz LO is disabled.

During interchirp time, if dynamic power save is disabled or idle time is <10us, the 20GHz LO is enabled.

    Regards,

    Adrian
