AWR2944: Can AWR2944 work in a cascaded mode with an 70GHz transceiver, such as AWR2243?

Part Number: AWR2944
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243, TIDEP-01012, , AWR1243

As I know, AWR2243 can work in multiple-chip cascaded mode, such as the design in document  TIDEP-01012 "Imaging Radar Using Cascaded mmWave Sensor Reference Design". In TIDEP-01012, all the cascaded AWR2243s transfer radar data through the chip-inside high-speed interface CSI2 TX. AWR2944 has a CSI2-RX module inside. Though the AWR2944 manual says "The prime functionality of these interfaces is Hardware in loop (HIL) functionality- playback data from the storage/playback device", but AWR2944 already owns a  Data Modification Module (DMM), whose function is " gives the ability to write external data into the device memory". The functions of DMM and CSI2-RX on AWR2944 are seem asame. So my question is that can AWR2944's CSI-RX interface connect to a AWR2243 CSI2-TX interface, then an AWR2944 device and an AWR2243 can work in a cascaded mode?

  • Hi,

No AWR2944 can not work as cascade setup. For cascade only AWR1243 and AWR2243 are supported.

AWR2944 CSI2 or DMM is mainly for playback feature. Under that feature, Rf-Front end of AWR2944 doesn't run but you are injecting the captured ADC data over CSI2 interface to verify your processing chain (application) in the lab where ADC data is based on real life scenarios based recorded.

    .

So with this detail, both device can not work in cascade mode where both device can transmit the RF signal.
