AWR6843ISK: MSS Power Up async event was not recieved

Part Number: AWR6843ISK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM,

Hello,

I am using the AWR6843ISK with the DCA1000evm and mmwave studio 2.1.1.0. When I try to connect to SPI, I keep getting a timeout error stating: [01:01:08] Status: Failed, Error Type: RESP TIMEOUT
[01:01:12] MSS Power Up async event was not received! (Edit: I am also using a 5V, 2.5A power supply).

I have already tried erasing the flash beforehand as suggested in https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors-group/sensors/f/sensors-forum/867127/awr1443boost-status-failed-error-type-resp-timeout-and-mss-power-up-async-event-was-not-received but it has not solved my issue. I have attached an image of what my setup looks like below along with a screenshot of mmwave studio and the output messages. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hello,

Unfortunately MSS Power Up async event was not received is an error that can be caused by several different issues, but the problem is due to connection issues between DCA1000 and computer with likely no relation to the mmWave sensor. I would attempt possible changes involving the Ethernet connection, such as checking your static IP settings and disabling your firewall. I personally ran into this exact error once due to a bad/incompatible Ethernet cable so try changing the cable as well.

Ensure you follow the steps in the guide below in the exact order they are shown in with no steps skipped.

  • Ok, I've followed the steps in the guide, made sure the static ip settings are correct and disabled my firewall. I also changed my ethernet cable. It still gave me the same issue. I did notice that the LED on the right side of the RJ45 port is orange though although I'm not sure what that means. From the user manual for the DCA1000EVM it seems to mean either "Activity Link" or "Link LED". Could this indicate anything?

  • Hello,

The RJ45 you are mentioning is on the mmWave device itself correct? That should not be an issue. The issue is the inability to connect with the DCA1000. You can try only connecting to the DCA1000 and doing that first. On that initial RadarAPI page where you posted your screenshot, you can scroll to the left and see a setup DCA1000 button. You will only have a valid setup if you can manage to get the FPGA to connect and output a version number of either 2.7, 2.8, or 2.9.

Can you double check the switches on the DCA1000 itself as well as the mmWave device in addition?

    Best Regards,

    Pedrhom

  • Hello,

I have double checked the switches and they are in the configuration as seen in the photo below. I have also attached a photo of what mmwave studio outputs when I click the setup DCA1000 button. It does show version 2.8, but in output, there seems to be some sort of error. Furthermore, while looking through the manual, I notice that the port names of my mmWave device differ from the ones in the photo although I don't know if this is an issue.

    Thank you,

    Patrick

  • Hello,

This has become very interesting. Generally when one gets "MSS Power Up async event was not received" it is due to the DCA1000 and by extension cannot connect to it to get its FPGA Version. That is definitely not the case here. Are you able to use the mmWave Sensor independently? For example running Out of Box demo? The steps to do so can be found in the Radar Toolbox.

    Best Regards,

    Pedrhom

  • Hello,

Yes, I've already run the Out of Box Demo prevsiouly and it seemed to work fine.

    Thank you,

    Patrick

  • Hello Patrick,

Can you attempt to use the ADC Data Capture Tool whose documentation is linked here?

    https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?a=1AslXXD__1.20.00.11&node=A__ACcj5qsn5G-kyhEttWYAjg__radar_toolbox__1AslXXD__1.20.00.11

    Best Regards,

    Pedrhom

  • Hello Pedrhom,

Sure, I will try, I'm just a little stuck on the third step. Where might I find the "rawDataCaptureGUI_DCA1000CLI.exe" file located?

    Thank you,

    Patrick

  • Hello Patrick,

You will need to download the Radar Toolbox itself and it will be in the directory C:\ti\radar_toolbox_1_20_00_11\tools\Adc_Data_Capture_Tool_DCA1000_CLI.

Download it using the triple dots.

    Best Regards,

    Pedrhom
