IWR6243: QSPI FLASH

Can someone explain what the flash is used for and do we need it now? There is a note in the datasheet that says: "The QSPI SFLASH is present only in pre-production versions of the silicon. The QSPI Interface will not be there in the production version, as the Functional Firmware will execute from ROM."

Hi Tyler,

Due to the lack of a ROM in the IWR6243 pre-production device, the firmware had to be loaded via either the Serial Flash or an external Studio interface. In the production version, the functional firmware will run from ROM, and the QSPI flash is no longer required.

Hi,

Correction: I clarified from bootloader team that the QSPI flash will also be required for production device. 6243 is a RAM based device, and BSS FW will need to be downloaded (through QSPI) even in production devices. We shall update our datasheet to reflect this in near future.
