INA228EVM + SCB firmware update and Switch setting questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA228, TI-SCB

Hi TI Support team,

I am getting error message “ Flash unsuccessful” when trying to update the firmware.  My setup is consisting of INA228EVM connected to SCB board and USB cable that was supplied in the package connected to the laptop. I have installed the GUI interfaces and I can successfully connect to the TI_SCB.

I have followed all the steps per user guide but unable to update the firmware.

Can you please provide the proper steps on how to update the firmware?

Also, the IN228EVM that I have received has SW0 and SW1 with a 4-position switch for each. The silk screen on the PCB for these switches do not match what is shown in the user guide document.

On my board the 4 positions are shown as GND, VS, SDA & SCL. In the user guide the INA228EVM has only one 4 position switch and positions are labeled as CS1, CS2, CS3 & CS4.

This is very confusing. The GUI interface configuration page has SW1 and SW2 HW configuration settings and the option to select are CS1, CS2, CS3 & CS4.

It’s not clear how I select the switch setting on the INA228EVM board to match the switch configuration on the GUI interface.

Please proved explanation on how to configure the switch setting on the board “GND, VS, SDA & SCL” to correspond to “CS1, CS2, CS3 & CS4”?

  • Hello Valued Engineer,

I am looking at this and will respond shortly.

    Sincerely,

    Peter

  • Hey Farshid,

The INA228EVM belongs to board number SENS063, which labels the SW0 and SW1 with "GND VS SDA SCL". Board SENS064 uses the "CS1 CS2 ..." net names. This can be seen in Figure 6-5 and 6-9 of User's Guide.

The GUI may be showing different names because it has not fully recognized it is connected to INA228 or because it has not been updated to latest firmware.

Would you mind telling me if the GUI ever recognizes anything other than the TI-SCB? If the GUI is still only showing a positive connection (green light) to TI-SCB, then the dropdown fields for SW0 and SW1 won't be relevant until GUI shows it is connected to INA228.

    1. Have you tried manually configuring the MCU on TI-SCB into DFU mode as explained in 4.2.1.2.1 of User's Guide? After doing this, then go back to step 1 of 4.2.1.2.1. If you do this step and GUI still says Flash Unsuccessful, just move on to step 2 below just to make sure in the event flash was successful, but GUI says otherwise.

    2. Are you running GUI Composer from a web browser or downloaded application?

    3. With the EVM plugged into TI-SCB, have you tried holding down the RESET button on EVM (~2 seconds) and releasing to see if this resolved the issue?

    4. Have you tried all other hardware COM ports under Options > Serial Port?

    5. Have you tried refreshing the GUI and then pressing RESET for 2 seconds?

    6. Have you tried using other USB ports for the TI-SCB connection, especially the USB port on back of your computer?

    Sincerely,

    Peter

  • Hello Farshid,

Since I have not heard back from you I will mark this thread as resolved. However, if you still need support or have other questions and updates, please post them here or in a new thread and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
