Hello!

I'd like to get some guidance, concerning the regulations related to 70-80 GHZ radars that are used for indoor purposes with humans present?

Do you know of any explicit prohibition in the EU countries/US concerning 70-80GHZ bandwidth radar use indoor, coupled with human presence?

Hello Alex,

With regards to Radar, there is IEC 61508 and IEC 61496-5 safety standards, but with regards to 77GHz bandwidth for indoor use with regards to human presence, is there a reason you are choosing 77GHz over 60GHz? 77GHz is the general bandwidth for automotive and certain outdoor applications.

Hello, Pedrhom!

We are currently doing a research on the possible radar chips/modules solutions, that fit our application scenario.

In this respect, 77GHz radars seem to have higher frequency range, i.e. higher resolution, compared to 60 GHz radars, which maycome in handy when reading human vitals and discerning humans & their position.

Since my company is currently in the R&D phase, we are trying to cover all possible solutions & related regulations/restrictions.

Hello,

The performance able to be achieved between 77GHz and 60GHz is borderline negligible. Even if it was not, due to your application you will need to us 60GHz due to EU/FCC regulations. You can read up on more information in our Radar Academy page on regulations.
