AWR1843BOOST: 1843 Can the resolution of Angle measurement be improved by using beamform technology?

Part Number: AWR1843BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642, AWR1843

Hello,

According to my current understanding, after beam forming, the beam width is narrower and the intensity is stronger, which should enable better angular resolution. However, I have studied mrr_beamsteering's orientation estimation after 3DFFT in interframeProcessing. It does not seem to embody better angular resolution than in the awr1642 srr code.

If you can get better angular resolution by using AWR1843, is there any official reference for similar solutions?

Regards,

Gary

  • HI, Gary:

Can you explain in more detail about what beamforming method is used in mrr and what beamforming method is used in srr?

And what type of study you have done for comparison?  Are the targets a static object?

    Best,

    Zigang

  • Hi,

Beamforming will not provide better angular resolution.

The algorithm that provides the best angular resolution available from TI is MIMO TDMA. This is used in the USRR mode of the MRR demo or is also provided in the mmWave SDK OOB demo.

There are other third party companies that may have proprietary algorithms that provide better angular resolution algorithms.

    Thank you
