TMP127-Q1: What is the best way to use this device to measure ambient temperature?

Part Number: TMP127-Q1

Hi,

I have a free SPI line with 4 CS's and was thinking of using these instead of thermistors. Firstly am I right in thinking that i can put all 4 on the same SPI line and alternate CS for each? I do not need to put the devices into low power so I guess read only with just MISO and SCLK lines will be ok and read them at 0.5s each by cycling through at 100ms each.

Previously I have used digital temp sensors with an exposed pad which I would then connect to an exposed pad to monitor ambient temp. As this does not have an exposed pad, is the ideal method to put a PCB cutout under the device?

Thanks!

  • Hi Matthew,

Your use-case assesment is correct. You can communicate with one device at a time by having a CS for each and your timing would allow to get a new temperature conversion in every read.

In terms of recommendations for measuring ambient temperature, consider isolating with cutouts and distancing the sensors from heat sources on the PCB. This will help to thermally decouple the sensors from undesired sources of heat and get you closer to the temperature that you want to monitor.

    Best regards,
