AWR2944: Assistance Required with Uniflash, mmWave Demo Visualizer, and Radar Toolbox Configuration

Part Number: AWR2944
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH,

Dear TI Technical Support Team,

I am reaching out for assistance with a few issues I am experiencing related to Uniflash, the mmWave Demo Visualizer, and the configuration of the radar toolbox in the CCS1220 environment. I have detailed my queries below and have included placeholders for images to provide more context.

  • Question 1: Issue with Uniflash and mmWave Demo Visualizer

I have used Uniflash to program firmware into my device, as shown in the attached image.

The two firmware versions are located in the following directories:
C:\ti\mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_04_04_01_02\mmwave_dfp_02_02_04_00\rf_eval\rf_eval_firmware\

Additionally, I have included an image of my board setup for your reference.

I am using the mmWave Demo Visualizer provided by TI, available at:

The connection process is depicted in the following image.

Despite following the steps, I am unable to establish a successful connection. Could you please advise if there is an issue with the firmware programming or any other potential problem?

  • Question 2: SBL Image Selection for Radar Toolbox Application

I successfully built the radar toolbox high-end corner application using CCS1220 and obtained the file awr2944_corner_radar.appimage. When using Uniflash, I am uncertain about which SBL Image file to select. Could you guide me on the appropriate choice for this process?

  • Question 3: Modifying TX and RX Quantities in Radar Toolbox

In the CCS1220, while building the radar toolbox high-end corner application, I wish to modify the number of TX and RX. Is this done by altering the parameters in the file shown in the attached image? Additionally, how can I verify the success of these modifications?

Request for Detailed Guidance

If there are any errors in my process, I would greatly appreciate detailed guidance, preferably with illustrative images, to understand the correct procedure.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your expert advice to resolve these issues.

Best regards,

Dylan

  • Hello Dylan,

The demo visualizer is only for the demo project or any RTB project with the modification of the demo.
For the details on how to use the demo, please install the mmwave mcuplus SDK 4.4.1.2 and then read the user guide: C:\ti\mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_04_04_01_02\mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_04_04_01_02\docs\mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_user_guide.pdf

What you are trying to flash is for the mmwave studio: C:\ti\mmwave_studio_03_01_01_00\docs\mmwave_studio_user_guide.pdf

Then coming to your question for HECR rtb: High End Corner Radar Users Guide (ti.com), you can see that it has a different visualizer mentioned in the user guide as well.

Please read through user guide of which project you wat to run and I would suggest you to follow it.

    Regards,
    Saswat Kumar

  • Dear TI Technical Support Team,

I appreciate your response, but I must express that it does not seem to address the specific issues I am encountering. Have you thoroughly reviewed the details of the problems I presented? My decision to seek assistance stems from a lack of clarity on how to resolve these issues, and what I need are precise instructions to guide me through the resolution process.

Firstly, I would like to understand which specific files should be flashed to enable normal operation of the system. This is crucial for the successful implementation of my project.

Additionally, I am seeking guidance on how to correctly choose the High-End Corner Radar SBL Image for subsequent processes. This decision is critical for my project's performance, and I am unsure of how to proceed with the selection.

I understand the difference between the demo visualizer for the demo project, the mmwave mcuplus SDK, and the mmwave studio, as well as the distinct visualizer mentioned for the HECR rtb. However, my difficulties lie in the practical application of these tools and the integration with my specific project requirements.

I am feeling very frustrated with the difficulties I've encountered in using your products. Therefore, I kindly request that you approach my concerns with utmost seriousness. A more detailed and focused assistance would be greatly appreciated. Your support is crucial in helping me navigate these complexities, and I look forward to a solution that is both thorough and tailored to the issues at hand.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    Sincerely,
    Dylan

  • Hello Dylan,

I understand your issue and frustration on this topic and see that you are facing difficulties while working on our software.

For every software project we provide the user guide( with all possible steps and illustration possible) to help any customer use it for the first time.

Each application works with the specific visualizer eg. MMW Demo works on the browser-based visualizer and HECR works with the python-based visualizer provided in TI Rex.

If you want to make it work on a different visualizer you need to understand the code and understand it completely (as in the first picture I see that you want to use the demo visualizer and run it with HECR)

This is the user guide for the browser based visualizer which you can use for your development: AWR2944 mmWave Demo Visualizer User's Guide (Rev. A) (ti.com)

If you you don't want to modify anything and just use it with the HECR default python visualizer, you can refer to all the steps mentioned here in: High End Corner Radar Users Guide (ti.com), if you go to this section it tells you to refer the user guide from: C:\ti\mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_04_04_01_02\mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_04_04_01_02\docs\mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_user_guide.pdf

The prebuilt binary can be found in: radar_toolbox\source\ti\examples\ADAS\high_end_corner_radar\prebuilt_binaries

In the uniflash you always need to flash both the SBL and the application image, when you do go through the mmwave MCU+ user guide as well, you can find the SBL in C:\ti\mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_04_04_01_02\mmwave_mcuplus_sdk_04_04_01_02\tools\awr294x\ sbl_qspi.release.tiimage

    .

As you requested giving snapshot for every step is not feasible as this information has been provided in the above-mentioned documents and I hope you can explore those documents and achieve your goal.

If you are facing a problem with any specific step of this, please let me know. I can help you out with the particular step in the user guide.

    Regards,
    Saswat Kumar
