AWR2243BOOST: What is the maximum range that you'd expect a ~60cm diameter aluminium sphere to be visible for the radar?

We are trying to measure the impact of rain on radar beams and part of the experiment requires a spherical target, a 60cm diameter aluminium sphere, placed at a large distance from the radar (ideally 100m) on a grassy area.

so far we have only managed to see the sphere with the radar at short distances like 6m.

I'm wondering what kind of maximal ranges would you expect such a sphere to be spottable by the radar? And how do you calculate this estimation?

    I recommend to do some searching on the "radar equation" to understand the max distance which an object can be detected based on RCS, noise, gain, etc. Below is a basic tutorial.

    Then, you can do some searching on how to determine the RCS of a sphere. Basically, the RCS will be proportional to the radius of the sphere. 

    This will allow to you get a rough estimate of the max range you can detect the sphere. In practice, a sphere will generally be harder to detect than flat object of the same size.
