IWR6843AOP: About Calibration

Part Number: IWR6843AOP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVE-L-SDK

Hi,

I saw a function mmwDemo_rangeBiasRxChPhaseMeasure in motion_detection.c of the mmwave L-SDK and it looks like a self calibration method.
Do you guys have any detailed document about this method or the official comparison with the calibration method introduced in the mmwave sdk?

And can we use this method for other radar socs?

  • Hello,

mmwDemo_rangeBiasRxChPhaseMeasure is a self calibration method for range bias and rx channel gain and phase imperfections. It is implemented via CLI commands in the example projects. The detailed documentation can be found at {MMWAVE_SDK5_INSTALL_DIR}/docs/MotionPresenceDetectionDemo_documentation.pdf (section 8).

There is no official comparison between the implementations of this calibration in SDK 3 vs. SDK 5; however, the CLI commands to measure and apply the calibration values maintain the same format from SDK 3 to SDK 5.

For which other radar socs are you interested in using this method?

    Best Regards,

    Josh

  • Hi Josh,
Thanks for your quick response. We are a radar solution provider and interested in IWR6843AOP at the moment. Can we apply that self-calibration to it?
    Best wishes,
    Tony

  • Hi Tony,

mmWave-L-SDK (SDK 5.x) does not currently support IWR6843AOP. You can perform the same calibrations but you will need to use the SDK 3.x equivalent. Please see the section titled "Range Bias and Rx Channel Gain/Offset Measurement and Compensation" in the mmWave SDK User Guide for the procedure to run this calibration.

    Best Regards,

    Josh
