Hi,

Please use the industrial toolbox, or better yet, the combined radar toolbox for the long range people detection lab on the 6843. You need to use different src for the 6843.

Thank you for your response. I have downloaded industrial toolbox and was checking for gui application to see objects.

1. In AWR1843 there is one utility called mrr visualizer, will this utility work for IWR6843 with long range people detection binary or need to use different utility?

2. The data format on serial out will be same for IWR6843 as AWR1843 is having?

3. After dumping long range people detection binary if I want the load original binary back, so from where I can get that binary?

Please use the visualizer specified in the long range people detection user guide for this.

Typically yes, the TLV format is the same, but the supported information may be different. Please use the Long Range People Detection Lab for the 6843. The labs are not cross-compatible across devices.

So related to my 3rd question, when I have received IWR6843 it had preloaded binary which works well with mmWaveDemo Visualizer. Now if I dump long range people detection binary in radar so the preloaded binary will be erased/replaced. Now if I want to load back that preloaded binary again then where can I get that binary? But I got it, there is one folder out of the box from where I can get that binary.

Can this radar be able to detect the smaller objects like 9mm wire? 

I am working on advanced application like obstacle avoidance in unmanned aircraft system.

Yes, I got that binary. 

One more thing is that I have dumped long range people detection binary and tried to open the link of TI-REX mentioned in user guide, but that link giving me some error. Is there any other link that you can provide me to download that GUI? 

Also, I tried to look the data on the data port of Radar on serial terminal with correct com port and baud rate, but I didn't see any data on serial terminal. Any suggestions? I am able to see data on serial terminal for "C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_03_06_00_00-LTS\packages\ti\demo\xwr68xx\mmw" this binary.

Hi Nathan,

I tried reading comport at baud rate 115200 and 921600 but didn't get any data on serial terminal.

I am using IWR6843 stand alone, connecting micro-USB directly to the IWR6843 module.

What binary is flashed onto the device and what are your switch settings? Can you confirm that the binary is flashed onto the device correctly?

Hi Nathan,

Switch setting is set to functional mode.

"long_range_people_det_68xx_demo.bin" binary available in below path is flashed onto the device,

"mmwave_industrial_toolbox_4_10_0\mmwave_industrial_toolbox_4_10_0\labs\Long_Range_People_Detection\68xx_long_range_people_det\prebuilt_binaries"

Hi Manoj, 

Nathan is currently out of office for the holidays so responses may be delayed. I will try to assist in the meantime. 

I understand you are trying to run the long range people detection demo and have successfully flashed the binary and set the device to functional mode but you are not seeing any output data. Have you sent the configuration file over UART as per the Long Range People Detection User Guide? The demo will not start until the device receives the configuration and command to start chirping. This is accomplished by the configuration file (.cfg).

Thank you for you response and update.

I followed user guide and steps mentioned in it. I have loaded config file using industrial visualizer and then selected the option "start and send configuration".

It showed me some error message on command window. Please find the attached images.

In above image I have loaded config file successfully.

In above image you can see it is showing me error when I start.

Also, I want to know about the casing for radar. Since, I am going to use radar in UAS so can't keep it open. If I want to cover it so what casing I should use so that casing itself should not be an obstacle for radar.

Thank you for the information. I have few more queries below,

It has been observed that until I load config file radar doesn't output data on serial.
Since, I am going to interface radar with micrcontroller directly. How to get the serial data without loading configuration file?

Which binary file is best suitable for 50m range, also for detecting smaller objects like wire with thickness of 9mm?

Also need some guidance on serial data interpretation?
How to convert hex value in their respective unit format. For eg. range hex value need to be converted to meters.

Also, data interpretation done. 

For range I have to try different binaries and test as you mentioned.
