TUSS4470: I want to demand vapor phase flows in the jurisdiction by supersonic wave tomography using a supersonic wave range sensor

Part Number: TUSS4470
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSS4440, , MSP-EXP430F5529LP

Hello, my name is Yuki Nakajima and I am currently conducting research at Hiroshima University. I am currently conducting research at the university using ultrasonic sensors to investigate gas-phase flow in a pipe using ultrasonic tomography.I am currently doing research at a university on gas phase flow in a pipe using ultrasonic tomography with a 40 kHz ultrasonic sensor, and I would like to amplify the electrical signal using our TUSS4470. Is it possible?
I have browsed through the datasheet, but I do not understand if it is possible to design with only one TUSS4470, so I would like to know if it is possible.
Thank you in advance for your reply.

  • Hello Yuki-san,

For higher voltages on the transducer, I recommend the TUSS4440 which can use a transformer to drive higher voltage.  Section 7.3.3 of the datasheet discusses this.

  • Thank you for your reply. Specifically, we plan to use Murata MA40S4R and MA40S4S ultrasonic sensors. According to the datasheet, the maximum allowable license voltage for this sensor is written down as 20Vp-p, and I would like to know if the TUSS44401 unit can amplify the voltage. This is a new research, so this is a direct form of asking without anyone around who knows more about it, and I apologize.

  • I have an additional question: if I use two transducer-type ultrasonic sensors that can transmit and receive with the TUSS4440, one will send out a pulse wave and the other will receive it. Can I then change the role of the sensor to send a pulse wave from the one that receives it and the sensor that just sent it receives the pulse wave from the one that received it?
The transducer to be used is below 400 kHz.

  • Yes, the maximum allowable voltage for that transducer is 20Vpp.  You can likely be okay using direct drive on the TUSS4470, without transformer drive.  The voltage can be controlled from the supply voltage.  I recommend you start evaluating with the EVM board below.

Yes, you can use a bistatic configuration where one transducer transmits and another receives.  On the BOOSTXL-TUSS4470 board, remove R12 and use J3 to connect the 2nd transducer.

  • Sorry, is there a question in this post?  Can you translate to english if so?

  • There is it when I can make in combination BOOSTXL-TUSS4470 and MSP-EXP430F5529LP, is it possible even if I use Arduino MEGA R3 in substitution for MSP-EXP430F5529LP? and According to the number of the transducer to use using evaluation board (EVM) will it be necessary?

  • No, the board pins would not fit properly on the Arduino and we do not have code for Arduino.  I suggest using the MSP-EXP430FR5529LP with the BOOSTXL-TUSS4470.  This is sufficient for a 2 transducer solution when you make the modification to the board I suggested above.
