Pengsheng,

The field of view of the photodiode is 10 degrees half angle. In practice the tube will block the IR emitter from hitting the photodiode directly, which means that the height of the tube should never interfere with the angle of the IR beam. A narrower beam will mean longer distance, as a wider beam will reduce the distance to increase the width.
