HDC3022: necessity of cutout around the chip in layout

Hi Team,

The customer currently wants to use HDC3022 to prevent condensation on the internal PCB of THEIR products.

For this application, does the PCB require THE cutout as shown?


My understanding is as follows:


If there is no cutout and the grounding is good, the temperature measured by the chip is closer to the board temperature; at this time, the relative humidity calculated by the sensor is the ratio of the absolute humidity in the air to the saturated humidity corresponding to the board temperature.

The customer only needs to ensure this relative humidity. If it is less than 100% (for example, if the threshold is set to 90%), there should be no condensation.


I don’t know if my understanding is correct, because customers don’t need to know the actual relative humidity of the air. They only need to ensure that their PCBs will not condense, so I would like to ask for your suggestions on this application.

    Based on everything you have said, I dont believe you need this or any cutout for HDC3022. The cutout will help optimize temperarue sensing (& hence humidity sensing as well) performance, but if you just need to catch very high humidity events such as condensation then it isnt necessary.
