IWR6843AOP: Serial data out problems when connected to Raspberry Pi (3B or 3B+)

Part Number: IWR6843AOP

Hi,

I am having problems with the radar data serial connection out to a Raspberry Pi, 3B or 3B+. I am working with the IWR6843AOP and IWR6843AoPCB kits from Mistral; both exhibit this issue.

I can very easily stream and parse the output data over the serial connection when the radars are connected to a laptop (running Ubuntu). But when I connect them to the Pi, the output stream works for a few frames, but then the bytes/stream degrades and is not what is expected (no "magic" bytes are found anymore). We have tried changing the baud rate but to no avail. We ensured the power supply is adequate for the Pi. We are running Ubuntu 20.04 server on the Pi.

Is there any guidance from TI on how to get the radar output stream to be correct when interfacing with a Pi? Many thanks

  • Hi,

It is unlikely that the problem exists from the IWR6843AOP side as you are able to see the transmission for few frames and you see proper functionality with Laptop.

Also, you can probe the lines when you see the faulty behavior. It seems that Raspberry board is unable to decode the data correctly after it loses synchronization of UART data

I hope that a common ground line has been connected between the boards.

Once you probe the lines you will have a clear picture of where the problem exists

    Regards
