AWR2544: Transmit signal and count received signals

Part Number: AWR2544

Hi,

This may appear to be a weird question, and I tried looking into the datasheets and technical papers of a few radar transceivers and couldn't find a concrete answer.

Would it be possible to use one radar transceiver to transmit signal 'chirps' and another, face-to-face to receive those chirps and maybe count them, or present a power level of those signals?

Thank you for your insights on this matter.

Please bear in mind that I'm mostly dumb regarding the configuration and software required to configure radar modules.

  • Hello,

Yes, I guess this could be possible. You can setup the frame trigger for a hardware trigger and then send the frame trigger to both radars simultaneously from an external source. You would enable the TX on one of the radars and the RX on the other radar and then when the frame trigger is received the first radar would transmit the chirps and the second would receive them.

Keep in mind that the clocks would not be synchronized in this case so any post processing dependent on the angular velocity of the signal would not work. I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish in this scenario.

    Regards,

    Adrian

  • Hi Adrian,

    Thank you for your response.

The post processing would not matter on this scenario. Our objective is just to validate that the PCBs are correctly assembled and that the receivers and transmitters all work correctly and as expected. With the scenario you proposed, I'm thinking that my objective would be accomplished.

    Thank you.
