AWR1843BOOST: piont cloud demo and data

Part Number: AWR1843BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843

hi, engineers

I use my AWR1843boost, I want to know if it is fit to detect objects to capture point cloud raw data?

1) for example, I detect one person, and how many point cloud is it on the body? 4-5 key points on body at middle range, 10 or more points on body at closer range to radar?

2) and moreover, for my awr1843boost, which demo could support my task to generate point cloud data and captured it?

3) as I know, whether DCA1000 is necessary to the task of point cloud?

4) for my AWR1843 antenna, 1T4R, 2T4R or 3T4R, which is needed to the task of point cloud? more vitual antennas means better result?

  • Hello,

    1. It depends on many factors, i.e. your chirp configuration, CFAR settings, size of person, distance, etc. I recommend you do some experiments and review our people counting lab examples/videos.

    2. If you just need point cloud data, the normal OOB demo is sufficient. If you are trying to do some kind of classification you will need more advanced demos.

    3. No, you do not need DCA1000 for point cloud.

    4. You can generate a point cloud with any number of TX+RX antennas. However, you need more antennas for AoA and elevation measurements. I recommend you review the below app note for some basics.
