I have just acquired the IWR6843AOP and a DCA1000EVM. I initially want to start with raw data collection. The two boards are connected properly. First, my PC does not have an ethernet port, so I am using an ethernet to USB adapter. I think it is working. I have loaded the mmWave_studio, and have the ethernet and USB J1 on the DCA1000 both connected. One of my USB drivers seems to be correct seeing four(4) instances of the AR-Dev-Pac-EVMs on the com ports and USB. However, the USBs called XDS-110 Class Application/User UART and XDS-110 Class Aux Data Port are not seen (only USB composite devices). Where is that driver? Also, when running mmWave_studio, the BSS and MSS packages are not found. Where can I download these for the 6843 in mmWave_studio Connection window? Please advise. Thanks!

Hello,

Please take a look at the DCA1000 User Guide in the Radar Toolbox on TI's Developer Zone.

With an IWR6843AOP without MMWAVEICBOOST, you will see a Silicon Labs driver rather than an XDS110, but the driver installation is the same for both which is the FTDI drivers which comes with mmWaveStudio. The BSS and MSS (radarss and masterss) firmware is in the mmWaveStudio installation as well within the firmware folder.

Thanks! I found the firmware. When I load mmWaveStudio, I get some drivers loaded but maybe not all of them. I see the four(4) AR-DevPack-EVMs displayed, but nothing more under Ports (COM and LPT) where they should be. So, when trying to run mmWaveStudio, I immediately get a communication error: " [RadarAPI]: Error: Connection failed: Calling_ConnectTarget returned 3". Ideas?

Hello,

Calling_ConnectTarget returned 3 is unfortunately a relatively common and vague error that can be cause by several different things. This could be due to a low performance Ethernet cable or power supply that is not 5V 3A. Can you attempt checking for those as well as looking at the debugging handbook?

My PC does not have an ethernet connection. I have an ethernet to USB adapter there. It is connected to the correct IP address. Power is good. I think the problem is that the additional com ports (XDS110 or in my case Silicon Labs) are not there. I have only a IWR6843AOPEVM and DCA1000EVM connected together. The ethernet and USB (Radar) are both from the DCA1000EVM.

Hi Pedrhom,

I've confirmed with Larry that he did try connecting the USB cable on both the right and the left side of your image, and he wasn't able to see the XDS110 in the Windows Device Manager.

Hello,

It needs to be plugged into the side of the sensor as shown in the image. You could try installing Code Composer Studio which comes with the most recent XDS drivers in order to ensure proper installation of those drivers.

Hello again,

I have the setup exactly as displayed in the image. When I tried using a Windows 10 older laptop, things did install and showed up as the Silicon Labs ports. However, that PC is very old and I want this working on my modern PC with Windows 11. In this case, the ports show up without a driver installed. I did reinstall the CCS, and rebooted, no change. Any ideas now?

Maybe if we can get a driver download for the Silicon Labs part on the IWR6843 board, that would work. I do not know the part number of that USB to UART device I assume it is, made by Silicon Labs. Can we go there?
