IWR6843AOP: Detecting sleeping adults or children at up to 10 meters

Part Number: IWR6843AOP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843,

How can I detect sleeping adults and children in real-world environments?

Adults lying down and snoozing seem to be virtually invisible to the sensor... children are even harder. I would like to be able to detect sleeping adults or children at up to 10 meters.

Do you think I have a chance with IWR6843? Any other part, configuration, or antenna I should think about?

I work mostly in real-world environments like offices and residences. False alarms due to fans, window blinds, floor motion from heavy walking, even window glass flexing in the wind are an issue, but having sleeping people totally disappear and give no returns seems even worse.

All ideas are appreciated!

  • Hi,

Which demo are you running on IWR6843AOP?

Consider using radar_toolbox_1_30_01_03\source\ti\examples\People_Tracking\3D_People_Tracking demo for your experiments.

To be able to detect children, you may have to tweak gatingParam CLI in the radar_toolbox_1_30_01_03\source\ti\examples\People_Tracking\3D_People_Tracking\chirp_configs\ISK_6m_default.cfg

Detecting sleeping people might be difficult but still possible as there will be some movement generated even by a sleeping person.
