IWR6843AOPEVM: Long Range People Detection

Part Number: IWR6843AOPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843AOP, IWR6843

Dear TI experts,

I am working on a project in which 6843AOP is used to detect walking people in 30~40 meters, however the Long_Range_People_Detection project in the radar toolbox supports ISK alike antennas.  Now I have two options about this: one is to test this with 3D_People_Tracking and another is to modify Long_Range_People_Detection.

Would you experts please give some advices on:

1. which one I should go first with?

2. how to modify Long_Range_People_Detection to work with 6843AOP?

Best wishes,

Guolong

  • Hi Guolong,

The Long Range People Detection project uses TX beamsteering, which is only available on the IWR6843 ISK design because its transmitters are located in 3 different horizontal locations. The IWR6843AOP device's TX antennas are shaped in an "L" shape, which means that it does not have 3 different horizontal locations for the TX antennas. This is incompatible with TX beamsteering. Therefore, I would recommend using the 3D people tracking code, or switching to an ISK-style antenna configuation.

    Best,

    Nate

  • Hi Nate,

Thanks for your help and I will try the People Tracking.

    Best,
