IWR6843ISK: EM Antenna Design files.

Part Number: IWR6843ISK

Hello,

We are currently developing on the IWR6843ISK board.  Does TI provide the design files for the antenna used on this board?  I know the Altium design files, but I am specifically interested in antenna design and electromagnetic simulation software files.

Thank you,

-Tom

  • Hi Tom,

We are looking into your question and will get back to you shortly.

    Best regards,

    Josh

  • Hi Tom,

We do not provide the design files for the antenna. But the EVM altium files can be imported to suitable electromagnetic simulation software and used for simulations.

  • Hi Ankit,

Can you provide information on how TI designed the antenna elements? I was surprised that TI didn't make the antenna's parts, which can be referenced in the schematic but instead are polygons in the PCB design file. I imagine the entire array was simulated in ADS software and imported as a block of polygons into Altium. Even with that, I would have expected the antenna as the whole array to be constructed and designated a single part, which could again be referenced in the schematic.

TI provides plenty of examples of best practices and design rules for working with all of its parts. The lack of antenna design rules or tool references seems to be a significant oversight, particularly for developers looking to integrate wireless capabilities into their projects. This gap can lead to increased development time and potential challenges in achieving optimal performance, underscoring the importance of comprehensive guidance in all aspects of system design.

  • Hi Tom,

The antenna was designed using Ansys HFSS. The altium design files can be imported it into Ansys HFSS; where you can clip the antenna part to simulate in HFSS to get radiation pattern.
