IWR6843ISK: Reset Error on XDS110

Part Number: IWR6843ISK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843

I am conducting a evaluation using our target board with the ISK6843 microcontroller.

During use, there was an occurrence of communication interruption.

hello expert,

My customer asked the following question.

Can you please support this issue?

-----

I attempted to reset it using xds110reset.exe,

but there was no immediate response and an error appeared on the console stating:

ERROR: Failed to assert nSRST(-261).

I think that this means the XDS110 Probe itself has frozen and is unable to control nSRST for the IWR6843.

My questions are as follows:

1) Please explain the meaning of this error message and possible causes.

2) Does the XDS110 Probe's firmware include self-reset controls such as brown reset or watchdog timer?

Regards,

A.Fujinaka

  • Hi,

What happens when the customer powers off and on again? Does this make the problem go away?

    Best,

    Nate

  • Fukinaka-san,

    ERROR: Failed to assert nSRST(-261)
    1) Please explain the meaning of this error message and possible causes.

Looks like a system reset attempt (via xds110reset utility) failed. I would suggest seeing if a system reset can be done from the CCS IDE

    2) Does the XDS110 Probe's firmware include self-reset controls such as brown reset or watchdog timer?

The behavior of a CPU or System Reset depends greatly on the device.

    See: https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/xdsdebugprobes/emu_resets.html

Also try the power cycle suggestion Nathan suggested earlier.

    Thank you

    ki

  • Hello Ki, Nate,

I received following feedback from my customer.

    --------

    I have reviewed the content.

After turning off the power to the target substrate and reapplying power,

the system returned to normal operation.

However, for this operation, a manual restart as a recovery method was not anticipated to be necessary.

Ideally, we would like to restore communication without manual intervention.

Are there any other recovery methods available?

    In addition,

it is my understanding that generally when software freezes occur,

designs are implemented that utilize a brown-out reset or a watchdog timer for self-resetting.

Would it be possible for you to provide us with the XDS110 Probe FW source code?

    -------

Can you please follow up for thier questison?

    Regards,

    A.Fujinaka

  • Fukinaka-san,

Would it be possible for you to provide us with the XDS110 Probe FW source code?

We typically do not provide this. Does the customer have an NDA with TI?

    Thank you
