IWR6843AOPEVM: + MMWAVEICBOOST + DCA1000EVM : SPI connect doesn't work for reading raw ADC data.

Part Number: IWR6843AOPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVEICBOOST, DCA1000EVM

I am trying to run this demo: https://www.ti.com/video/5827389052001#transcript-tab
When clicking on SPI connect I keep getting this error:
[11:28:29] Status: Failed, Error Type: RESP TIMEOUT
[11:28:34] MSS Power Up async event was not received!

These are the checks I did:

  • ES Version
    • I use mmWave studio version 02_00_00_02 (ES1)
    • My IWR6843AOPEVM has ES1 as described in the datasheet
  • I double checked my pin settings of the MMWAVEICBOOST and DCA1000EVM as seen in the picture. These should be configured for ADC data capture.
  • I run mmWave Studio as administrator
  • I disabled my firewall for mmWave Studio
  • I have restarted everything multiple times.

I am running out of ideas and possible fixes and my error is still not fixed.

It's my first time working with these boards and software so if anybody could share some tips or fixes that would help very much!

This is my setup:

If any additional information is needed let me know!

  • Hello,

Are you certain that your AOP is ES1? You can check based on the diagram below.

Did you also check that the AOP's back switch to be off?

We have the DCA1000 User Guide in the Radar Toolbox on TI Developer Zone which is the most up to date guide. Can you also confirm all software and hardware steps were done there?

    Best Regards,

    Pedrhom

  • Hello Pedrhom,

    Thank you for your response!

I checked that my AOP is ES1.
To make sure I even loaded the ES1 firmware in mmWave studio version 02_00_00_02. But I also loaded the ES2 firmware in mmWave studio version 02_01_01_00. So I don't think the ES1 firmware version is the problem?

I also checked the AOP's back switch to be off.

I also checked the User Guide.

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Best regards,

    Dag

  • Hello Dag,

I cannot see exactly, but you have two micro USBs connected as well as the Ethernet cable right? Have you potentially tried different USB cables and Ethernet cable? I have personally came across "MSS Power Up async event was not received" with it being fixed with a different Ethernet cable, and the one I was using before was the one that came with the box so it is very possible.

    Best Regards,

    Pedrhom
