Hi,

Regarding the IWR6843, to collect raw data and process the data for all types of staircases, what is the efficacy that the radar will accurately plot data to detect the base of the staircase - both distance and depth of each board, detect each footboard and the end of the staircase where there are no more stairs if the radar on your leg and is positioned downwards towards the floor and walks to the beginning of the stairs and proceeds to walk up them?

From our testing we are noticing sparse data points of this even as some of the data is being processed to produce dense data. In other words sometimes the data is not coherent. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Additionally what is the accuracy comparison for an RGBD vs the radar in efficiently producing plot data?

Hello,

With radar it will be very difficult to map out every footboard and have perfect accuracy of distance and depth. You can do slope detection in the sense of knowing that there is a drop off or large downwards incline, but to do that with every single step down to the bottom of the stairs will be difficult. Youll be able to tell there are drops offs, youll be able to tell when you have reached the end of the staircase, just not the exact distance/depth of every single step.

Thank you for your reply. If the radar cannot detect each stair board, can it detect when the staircase starts and finishes? As in flat ground surface vs incline while on stairs? If so can you please link reference on how to accomplish this or if the settings should be adjusted to achieve this?

We do not have any demo code to share, but we have a page on "Cliff Detection Using mmWave" which we use a staircase to show that mmWave Radar can be used to detect drops.
