I have been working with the AWR1843 mrr beamsteering demo for the past two weeks and have noticed by analyzing the raw binary data (captured by Teraterm Pro) that it only sends on subframe - the MMR. I have set the demo to "SUBFRAME_CONF_MRR_USRR" in mmr_config_const.h in both DSS and MSS projects. A code walk thru seems to indicate that it should be sending the MRR subframe and USRR subframe. The raw binary data shows that only one subframe is being sent (i.e. the subframe number is always 0).

Below is 2 consecutive frames:

Every frame in a large data collection file is the same - never sends the USRR frame.

Does anyone have any insight as to why the USRR is not being sent? Our application needs to have both MRR and USRR data.

Hi Rick,

Subframe number is 1 in the header marked below. So both the subframes are being used.

Thank you Samhitha. I was keying off the wrong search pattern and completely missed it despite being so clear.

So after I looked through the data, I do see that USRR never detects any objects - even though I'm in a lab environment where everything is < 15M. Do you know why this is the case that no USRR objects are detected?

Hi Rick,

This is a known issue. It is listed in the MRR Beamsteering Release Notes. I also found this thread AWR1843BOOST: No detected points output in USRR mode of Lab0011 project - Sensors forum - Sensors - TI E2E support forums. It states that USRR mode does not work in the MRR beamsteering lab.

So I see that this thread is 3 years old. Why has TI not fixed the limitation and/or removed it from the documentation. I feel that my team has wasted many days now evaluating AWR1843 - only to find that it may not meet our projects needs (MRR beamsteering + USRR).

One more question: is this an issue that can't be solved due to hardware limitations or just that the software project has not been fixed?

Hi Rick,

It's mentioned in the Release Notes that USRR mode does not work in the MRR beamsteering. You can use Medium Range Radar project to work with USRR mode.

It's a software issue. We will try to fix it in the upcoming release.
