OPT3101: OPT3101 related issues

Part Number: OPT3101

Hi,

Question 1: Does frequent switching between monostable and continuous modes of OPT3101 affect the repeatability accuracy of distance measurement?

Question 2: In dual frequency continuous mode, after OPT3101 notifies the MCU that the data is ready, the MCU does not read it; After the next data is ready, the data read from OPT3101, Is it the result of the previous conversion?

Thanks!

  • Jeno,

When using continous mode the OPT3101 can do averaging and oversampling to increase accuracy. In monoshot mot you will receive a single measurement. If you want the same benifits as continous mode you can appply averaging and oversampling in your MCU manually. The effects are similar, however in continous mode you get a much higher sample rate,

No, in continous mode the distance is placed in a register for you to read. If you do not read it, the next time the OPT3101 has a new distance measurement, it will over write the data in the register.
