AWR2944: Can the XDS110 Debug Probe Kit replace both the TM4C1294NCPDTT3 and FT4232 in the EVM simultaneously?

Part Number: AWR2944

hi team

We are designing a development board for AWR2944.

Question 1: The TM4C1294NCPDTT3 in TI's EVM realizes the function of XDS110, and its onboard XDS110 is what we really want. If we also place a TM4C1294NCPDTT3 on our development board, does TI provide the corresponding program to turn the TM4C1294NCPDTT3 into an XDS module?

Question 2: If the answer to question 1 is no. We plan to use the XDS110 Debug Probe product for debugging. As far as I know, the TM4C1294NCPDTT3 MCU is used for two reasons: a. JTAG debugging; b. UART data input/output; Can the XDS110 Debug Probe product achieve these functions?

Question 3: Is the FT4232 necessary in the development board? Can the XDS110 Debug Probe product replace the FT4232 in the EVM? If so, I plan to remove the FT4232 from the development board design.

thanks

  • Dear Simon -

Thanks for the post and welcome to E2E.

FTDI circuit and interface provides connection (on the EVM) to AWR2944 UART, SPI, I2C, RS232, and SOP interfaces.

XDS110 circuit and interface provides connection to the JTAG, MSS_UARTA, and MSS_UARTB interfaces of the AWR2944.

Most of the time, I would say that on a production board, you would not populate the XDS110 circuit and instead use a header and an external XDS110 in programming and test area of PCB manufacturing.
