DCA1000EVM: DCA1000EVM Will not connect through ethernet to my computer

Part Number: DCA1000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2944,

Hello,

I am trying to use the AWR2944 with the DCA1000evm through MMwave studio and I'm having issues getting the DCA1000evm to connect to the laptop through ethernet. So far I have tried reflashing the DCA1000evm, turning off my firewall, and not being connected to wifi when using MMwavestudio. I have attached a couple of images that I think will be helpful. At the time of taking the screenshots in MMwavestudio I was not connected to the internet and had my firewall disabled. Also I noticed there's a SD card slot on the DCA1000evm would I be able to use this to get the raw data off of the radar and if so how? Please let me know if you have any ideas on how to fix this and thank you for the help.

  • Hi Erik,

For the Ethernet Connection Settings, turn off the automatic DNS server assignment. I think this could be a reason.

And please follow the exact steps given in mmwave_studio_03_01_01_00\docs\mmwave_studio_user_guide.pdf for the setup.

    Thanks,
    Anirban

  • Hello,

I tried turning off the DNS server assignment and the DCA1000evm was still not able to connect to my laptop. I have been following the DCA1000evm user guide, the AWR2944 user guide, and the mmWave studio user guide. Here's an image of the new ethernet settings,

  • Hi Erik,

Please find the below points to verify -

    1) Check the ethernet port is which you are connecting the DCA with is the same as you are configuring from the Windows Settings

    2) Open "View Network Connection" from window search > Check which Network port is being used when connecting to DCA > Go to its "Properties" > Open "Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)" > "Use the following IP address" > put the static IP for PC as 192.168.33.30 and netmask will be automatically filled up with 255.255.255.0 value > Check from mmWave studio if DCA is connected or not

    3) Can you share a picture of the white switches settings on your DCA board?

    Thanks,
    Anirban

  • Hello

    1) I only have one ethernet so I believe that is the correct one I am configuring

    2)  heres a screenshot fo the configuration I have setup it still does not recognize the DCA1000evm.

    3) Here's an image of the SOP switches on the DCA1000evm   and the AWR2944

I got the information for this set up from the AWR2944 user guide

  • Hi Erik,

    2)  heres a screenshot fo the configuration I have setup it still does not recognize the DCA1000evm.

    1) In the DNS server section, leave the "preferred DNS server" field blank.

    2) Are you using the "DataCaptureDemo_xWR.lua" script to run the mmWave Studio?

    3) If (1) doesn't work, you can flash the FPGA with the binary present in mmWaveStudio\PlatformBinaries\DCA1000FPGA folder. For flashing/programming the FPGA please follow the instructions from DCA1000 User Guide > "FPGA Programming" section (DCA1000 User Guide  Link - ti.com/lit/ug/spruij4a/spruij4a.pdf)

    Thanks,
    Anirban

  • Hello,

I just tried leaving the DNS server section blank and reflashing the FPGA. I have not tried using the DataCaptureDemo_xWR.lua yet should I try this?

    Thanks,

    Erik

  • Hi Erik,

From the DCA1000 image, I can see some misconfiguration in the SW2 switches.

Attached is the image of DCA1000 at our end, the find the SW2 switch settings for correct configuration.

    Thanks,
    Anirban

    .

  • Hello,

I have just adjusted the SW2 to the configuration shown in the image and it is still not able to connect. I believe there is an issue with the device itself is there a warranty that would handle replacing the DCA1000evm.

    Thanks,

    Erik

  • Hi Erik,

Is the Ethernet cable a working one?

If the connections are correct then you can download mmWave studio 3.1.1.0 and try controlling the DCA1000 board via CLI application.

It is present in mmWave_studio_3.1.1 > mmWaveStudio > PostProc > Open cmd prompt > Run below commands

    1) DCA1000EVM_CLI_Control.exe fpga cf.json

    2) DCA1000EVM_CLI_Control.exe record cf.json

    3) DCA1000EVM_CLI_Control.exe start_record cf.json

    .

Check what is the status after each command.

    .

I'm not aware of the warranty of the device and how you can replace it Sweat smile  you can contact the TI helpline.

    Thanks,
    Anirban

  • Hello,

I tried another Ethernet cable but it still was not working. I also tried running the commands heres a screenshot of the outputs. Do you have any other Ideas? Thank you for the help.

    Thanks,

    Erik

  • Hi Erik,

Three reasons that can cause Timeout Error! System Disconnected error -

    1) SW2.5 on DCA1000 set to hardware mode instead of software mode

    2) There may be a disconnect between the version of mmWave Studio and the corresponding firmware version used

    3) Firewall may be blocking the ports used by the DCA1000EVM

    .

    Now in your case -

    1) SW2.5 is set to SW mode

    2) Firmware version is correct

    3) Firewall already disabled

I'm suspecting this might be a HW issue on the DCA1000 itself.

    .

Instead of ethernet streaming you can store the captured data in a SD card as well. Put the SW2 - Pin 2 in SD_STORE mode that will configure the DCA1000 for storing the RAW data in SD card.

Let me know your observations on this.

    Regards,
    Anirban

  • Hello,

I can't find much online about the DCA1000evm SD card mode. What are the steps for setting up the data capture card for SD card store and what should I be looking for while it is storing data.

    Thanks,

    Erik

  • Hi Erik,

Got the confirmation from the team that currently the SD_STORE is not supported.

I thought SD_STORE would be able to help you in this situation, but we're kinda out of luck here.

One last thing I'd suggest you to do is configure the SW2 switch according to the user guide. I'm attaching the screenshot here -

    .

Only the SW2 Pin 5 should be in SW mode, other pins configure same as the image above.

    Regards,
    Anirban
