AWR1843BOOST: Can the demo that runs on the AWR1843BOOST EVM run on the AWR1843AOP EVM?

Hi,

I have same questions about AWR1843BOOST EVM and AWR1843AOP EVM.

Question 1, can the demo that runs on the AWR1843BOOST EVM run on the AWR1843AOP EVM in the Beamforming Mode?

Question 2, the radar can detect the object as far as 150m on the AWR1843BOOST EVM.Now if the same demo runs on the AWR1843AOP EVM , can AWR1843AOP EVM detect the object as far as 150m with the same configuration as AWR1843BOOST EVM? Or is it necessary to modify some configurations to achieve the same performance?

Question 3, if it needs to modify some configuration, which parameters should be changed?

Yes, you can load the prebuilt binaries provided for MRR Beamsteering on the AOP EVM without any change.

Question 2 and 3 - I don't think that AWR1843AOP EVM can detect an object at 150m.

Hi Samhitha,

Thanks for your reply. We have confirmed that it is possible to detect the object (such as car, truck, etc) as far as 150m by modifying CFAR threshold value on the range and doppler direction. Now I want to know in order to holding the same detection range, such as the maximum range 100m or 150m is it necessary to modify any parameter,such as CFAR threshold value or Rx gain ?Because I compare some property parameters that are different for the both EVMs as belows:

AWR1843 chip:

Tx power:12dBm,Rx Noise Figure: 14 dB (76 to 77 GHz) , 15 dB (77 to 81 GHz) ;

AWR1843AOP chip:

Tx power:16dBm,Rx Noise Figure:10 dB;

I am assuming that this detection is for AWR1843BOOST EVM.

AWR1843AOP EVM is not for detecting long range objects. AWR1843BOOST EVM can be used for your usecase. To detect a longer range, you need to use your own antenna and the algorithm should also be changed to meet your requirements.

Thank for your reply. It seems like that the performance of AWR1843BOOST EVM is better than AWR1843AOP, is that right? That is to say that the antennas-on-package is worse than antenna-on-non package,is that right?

Hi Rata,

Yes, AWR1843BOOST EVM performs better than AWR1843AOP EVM in terms of long-range detection.

Hi Rata,

Maximum range depends on many factors like the chirp configuration, type of object to be detected etc. According to some tests with AWR1843AOP and MIMO TDMA configuration, we have detected cars at a maximum range of 50-60m.
