TMAG5231: conformal coating impact

Part Number: TMAG5231

Hello,

I am planning to conformally coat the PCB that includes the TMAG5231. Can it have any adverse effects on the behavior of the sensor like reduced sensitivity, false trip, noise induction etc.?

Thanks.

  • Gaurav,

A conformal coating should not impede the magnetic field from reaching the sensor.  The only possible consideration here would be if the conformal coating could cause a package stress, but I'd expect this to be very minimal, if at all.  The device should have already had more stress applied to it during the typical soldering process and the conformal coating should be entirely secondary to that.

Any study with actual data would depend on the conditions of the PCB itself and the application process used.  It would be best practice to test out the concept with a prototype PCB, but I don't expect any significant shift to the sensor performance.

    Thanks,

    Scott
