PGA305EVM-034: Calibration Validation: Running PGA305 stand alone

Part Number: PGA305EVM-034

I have calibrated PGA305 on PGA305EVM-034.

Setup:

1. External Bridge BRG=2.5V

2. External Temperature Sensor INT+ at 500uA

3. Calibration Type 1T3P

4. Calibration coeffects loaded to PGA305 EEPROM

I would like to run PGA305 SoC without using GUI.

This is to get idea how it runs in my custom PCB design.

Please help with how I can run PGA305 SoC on its own while I am changing temperature and pressure on External Bridge and External Temperature Sensor.

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Igor

  • Hi Igor,

Well, the easiest way would be to measure the DAC output (as either voltage or current depending on the calibration).  Otherwise you will need to use OWI or I2C to retrieve the data which would require writing an application (as in your own GUI).

  • Hello Bob,

    Thank you for your response.

I do have DMM connected to DAC output.

Do I disconnect the USB cable and turn on the power to read Vout at different Pressure and Temperature setting?

    Igor

  • Hi Igor,

Yes, you can just disconnect the USB cable and apply power to banana jack connectors on the EVM.  Note however that as you only have one temperature measurement point, there will be no correction for temperature and you may see some drift as it relates to temperature changes.  So I would recommend just keeping the device at room temperature and verifying first with just pressure changes.  Once you have good success with just pressure changes, you can experiment with temperature changes to see the outcomes.

  • Hello Bob,

I have calibrated and programmed the PGA305 with GUI.

I disconnected USB cable and Cycled power.

DMM was connected to DAC output.

Temperature was kept at 25C as during calibration.

DAC output was stuck at 0vdc with any change in Pressure (outside bridge values).

Please advise what I could be doing wrong.

    Thank you for you help.

  • Hi Igor,

If the MCU is in reset, the DAC output is 0.  Depending on the EEPROM values the output of the DAC could be zero.  Have you verified that the EEPROM values were actually written to the PGA305 by reading the values back?  Also, if the CRC value is incorrect when powering up the device, the device can be in reset.  The diagnostics, if enabled, can hold the DAC output at 0 if any of the following:

So I would recommend restarting the GUI and checking on the status of the EEPROM settings.
