Hello TI,

At first, I am preparing for certification with IWR6843.
I'm using area scanner example.

Below is part of my cfg.

Q1. I wonder if the phase shifter will work automatically if I use this configuration.
Q1-1. If the phase shifter operates automatically, please tell me how to disable it.

Q2. Please let me know if there is some way to implement full power CW Tx, which is commonly used for certification.

Q3. Can you explain how to use 3 Txs in the same phase at the same time without using a phase shifter?

Q4. I have seen that using measureRangeBiasAndRxChanPhase command, it is possible to calibrate phase using a corner reflector.
Please let me know if there is any detailed information on how to calibrate phase and maybe hardware.

Q1. I wonder if the phase shifter will work automatically if I use this configuration.

With regards to phaseshifting in our MIMO Radar, there is TDM and BPM. BPM is a special case of beamforming, where the 2 TX are 180 degrees separated. So yeah sort of. If they want to use 3TX with different phases to do real beamforming, they will need to account for this in the processing I think. The example we have is in long range people tracking, but I am not sure the specifics of the SW support needed here.

Q1-1. If the phase shifter operates automatically, please tell me how to disable it.

MMWAVE-SDK has <txPhaseShifter> within profileCfg which should be set to 0 to have no phase shifting.

Q2. Please let me know if there is some way to implement full power CW Tx, which is commonly used for certification.

StudioCLI has an option to do this. Please check the getting started and developer's user guides.

You theoretically should just be able to enable BPM in the chirp config and not set any phase shift in the profile config. I am not sure there is an advantage to using all without phase shift, since I think it would be ambiguous where the signal came from.

Prerequisite 3 within the Overhead 3D People Tracking guide covers how to use the measureRangeBiasAndRxChanPhase command. And yes you should use a corner reflector.

Q1, Q3. When using BPM, can IWR6843 transmit 3 TXs with same phase simultaneously?

Q2. Can I use CW Tx mode with based on Area scanner example?

Continuous wave mode is only supported via raw data with DCA1000. These devices are not designed for CW mode, they are inherently FMCW devices. But we ensured at least one methodology for CW mode support for those interested, which is usually for certification as is the case for you.

Hello Seokjin,

What I mean is that although this is a FMCW device, there is a small demand for a CW mode, usually for the purposes of certification. For this reason, one can use CW mode via tools like Studio CLI or mmWaveStudio, but we do not have any high-level guides or examples on this in the Radar Toolbox or anything like that.
