IWR6843AOP: Regarding Number of Tx Antenna

Part Number: IWR6843AOP

Hi 6843AOP Champ !

I see that there are 3 TX antennas and 4 RX antennas inside the 6843AOP, what is the major difference between using 1 antenna for TX and 2 or 3 antennas for RX?

Infineon 60GHz AIP products are also available with 1 TX antenna,
When using IWR6843AOP, I would like to know the main difference between the number of antennas used, such as does the SDK use all antennas or can I adjust them individually by turning them on/off?

Thanks.

Regards,

Jack

  • Hi, Jack:

    1) For target detection, we can non-coherently combine all the antennas.  Which means more antenna means larger SNR, and longer maximum detectable range.

    2) Number of antenna will not affect range resolution, doppler resolution, but it does affects the angle resolution.

    3) Note that accuracy will be affected by SNR.  In general, more antenna means better accuracy in detection including range, Doppler and angle.

Partial TX or RX channel enable is allowed in the RF.  But SDK demo may not have all the partial RX channel combination tested.

    Hope it helps,

    Best,

    Zigang
