DCA1000EVM: DCA1000EVM

Part Number: DCA1000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843ISK-ODS, MMWAVEICBOOST

I just bought a DCA1000EVM and I connect IWR6843ISK-ODS today to it for the first time!

After plugging it to 5V supply, the green light turns on and I can feel a liitle warm with ICs on DCA1000EVM.

But I cannot find the Ethernet interface showing up on my Windows, however other Ethernet devices can work with my computer.

I also tried other computers, and  I got the same situtation.

I missed any other process to correctly communicate DCA1000EVM  with my PC via RJ45 ?

Or this DCA1000EVM has some problem?

  • I found that IWR6843ISK-ODS seems to have two versions, REV A and REV C, and only REV C can be directly connected to DCA100EVM via the micro USB to mirco USB port for data capture?
Hope that the official website can clearly indicate the difference in use, so as not to cause purchase mistake. I am currently purchasing a REV A and directly connect it to DCA1000EVM and there may be an obvious problem?
But should DCA1000EVM be able to be monitored via Ethernet without correct connection to IWR? Besides, should it be driven on USB after installing the latest version of mmWave studio? None of this is going well for me at this moment.
  • Hello,

It is correct that the ISK-ODS REV A will not work with just a DCA1000 and will need a MMWAVEICBOOST as well.

The official and most updated guide is the  DCA1000 User Guide on the Radar Toolbox in the TI Developer Zone covers this near the very top.

  • Many thanks to Pedrhom.

Since I got the wrong ISK version for connection to DCA1000, now  I can only  try to test my PC connected to DCA1000 through Ethenet cable without ISK on it.

The test setup now is that Ethernet cable is connected to DCA1000 and PC/Windows, 5V/3A power supply is plugged in and switched on, and mmWave studio is successfully installed on Windows.

In this stituation, the 5V_LED lights on but  I cannot find any new ethernet device from Windows' control panel/Ethernet to set the TCP/IP port. Is it normal for this DCA1000 board? The  lights of Ethernet port are not on. It seems the Ethernet function does not work in my above test case.

  • Hello DC,

Without any sensor connected but with a DCA1000 with proper drivers installed, you should at least be able to see the four DevPack drivers as seen in the guide and below. Do you see those?

    Best Regards,

    Pedrhom

  • Pedrhom,

This board I bought possibly has some problem because there is no response from the Ethernet port and Windows/Control panel/device manager though the 5V_LED can be lighted on.

  • Hello DC,

And this is with all the cables plugged in? Ethernet + USB and you see no DevPack drivers under Ports within Device Manager? Nor some sort of unknown device?

    Best Regards,

    Pedrhom

  • Dear Pedrhom,

I am sure that Ethernet cable and USB cable are connected to PC, the last version mmWave Studio is also successfully installed with driver. But it can not show any response in Windows/Device Manager. As I changed DCA1000 to another PC, the same situation was observed. If I connect other devices, the driver/Ethernet function is ok. I have asked engineers in a well experienced/to be collaborated company in using DCA1000/ICBoost board/IWR68431ISK-ODS to check my boards for cross validation, they reported me that this DCA1000 has no function and the IWR68431ISK-ODS is OK with their ICboost carrier board!

  • Hello DC,

Okay understood, with that information I will deem this DCA1000 defective. Feel free to reach out to TI customer service and refer them to this thread if needed as approval for a new one. We apologize for the inconvenience.

    Best Regards,

    Pedrhom

  • Dear Pedrhom,

Really thank you for your great patience to help resolve my trouble.  I believe that TI always provides us top-level quality of products thought this case is rare to my experience. However, owing to your nice help and support, I am much encouraged to get more TI's samples to develop applications.
