OPT3101: How to select matching capacitors in English

Part Number: OPT3101

HELLOW

How to select matching capacitors for the INP and INM pins?

Thank YOU

  • Meiling,

In the data sheet for the photodiode you will find a specification for capacitance. Most of the time it is a chart showing the capacitance at a bias voltage. The OPT3101 provides 1Vdc for the bias. Find this chart, using the x axis move to the 1V bias location. Then move up the y axis to find the photodiode capacitance. That value will be the INP capacitance. Select the matching parallel INM capacitance to match the photodiode. This is important that they match or the system will never remove ambient light correctly and cause measurement errors. Also when routing the photodiode and the parallel capacitor make sure the trace lengths are matched. Route them as if they were a differential pair. This will match the PCB trace capacitance for both and increase the overall accuracy.

  • Thanks for your reply:

However, it is still not clear how to select the capacitance value at the INM pin

  • Thank you very much, I now know how to make the selection.
