RE: OPT3101: application questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPT3101

Hi Gordon

I have a new question.

opt3101 Specifies whether the configurable current value is ILLUM_DAC_H_TX0 x ILLUM_SCALE_H_TX0+ILLUM_DC_CURR_DAC. The maximum value is 31*5.6ma+7.5ma=181.1.

Thanks!

  • Meiling,

The actual switching current for the emitter is ILLUM_DAC_H_TX0 x ILLUM_SCALE_H_TX0. The ILLUM_DC_CURR_DAC is a DC bias current. Yes it applies an additional current in case the emitter requires a small bias current. This can reduce turn on time and prevent overshoot. Although it may look like it increases the switching current, it really does not change the depth of current used to modulate the emittters. There is no realized gain in the illumination output.
