AWR2944: LOCK0_KICK0 Register and LOCK0_KICK1 Register KEY

Hi Ti Support,

Since the chip manual of AWR2944 is very simple, for the following example, why are these two registers LOCK0_KICK0 Register and LOCK0_KICK1 Register used for unlocking, and why their values are #define KICK_LOCK_VAL (0x00000000U) #define KICK0_UNLOCK_VAL (0x01234567U) #define KICK1_UNLOCK_VAL (0x0FEDCBA8U), I did not find the relevant usage examples and unlocking key value in the chip manual.

Hi Cheryl,

These registers are basically used to protect some register space. So, by writing these registers you are basically locking some other register which cannot be until unless you unlock them to protect them from being misused. Currently these registers only lock certain register space such as IOMUX etc.

Currently I know the IOMUX registers which can be protected by these KICK_LOCK registers. Regarding the documentation I have asked the design team for the same. I will forward you as soon as I get them

Hi Cheyrl,

Only IOMUX has the lock kick, other Register sets does not have this functional.

However, your documents are too simple and seriously affect our development. We are not machines and we need to know more. many. Regarding this key issue, I hope you can give us strong evidence whether it exists or not.

Hi Cheyrl,

Many of the SDK code is shared/reused across many TI products. Each product based on its implementation may or may not have the LOCK-KICK implemented in the hardware. Because of this, SDK code performs the lock-kick lock/unlock procedures even if it is not implemented by hardware in AWR2944.

As stated in the TRM, these lock-kick is not functional in AWR2944.

TRM is the only document. If something is unclear in the TRM, please let us know, we will make the corrections in the next iteration of TRM update.

Hi Ajay,

What you mean is that currently the only AWR2944 with kick function is IOMUX, and other major register types can be read and written directly without unlocking.

Yes, that is correct, only IOMUX has lock-kick functionality. Other registers can be written directly without unlocking. For protecting other major registers, you can consider using MPU or PCR functionality.

About the AWR2944, only IOMUX have lock-kick functionality.After AWR2944 chip,maybe AWR2945 Chip,Do your company will update your hardware ,then Other registers will support lock-kick functionality?

Hi cheyrl wang,

That is dependent on the architecture of the device. In AWR2944, it is removed based on the use case that access to these registers may be required from other cores as well, hence this lock kick is not implemented for these registers for AWR2944.

That is dependent on the architecture of the next device. If it is a multicore, then probably lock-kick won't be added back.
