Hello, I am a student who has just started to learn about piezoelectric transducers. I want to make a ultrasonic vibrating module like a sonicator. I have a small 25mm PZT-5A Piezoelectric transducer. I want to know what kind of circuit or what kind of driver module i can use to generate ultrasound using this transducer. Can the PGA460 help in driving the transducer or any other driver circuit that can help me with this? Thanks in advance.

Hello Gayathri,

The PGA460 can drive transducers from 30-80kHz and 180 to 480kHz. It looks like ultrasonic cleaners typically operate around 40kHz. but may require significantly more power output than the PGA460 can provide. Our ultrasonic devices are typically used in applications where the time of flight between TX and RX is measured to determine distance.

Thank you for your response. I am not seeking to construct a sonicator in the traditional sense; rather, my objective is to operate a 40kHz piezoelectric transducer to generate vibrations of sufficient amplitude to lyse cells. Will this driver circuit be a right choice?

The PGA460 can transmit at 40kHz. What is the driving voltage required for your transducer? I do not have any experience with your specific application to lyse cells, so I am not sure what the requirements are.
