IWR6843ISK: Methods for mitigating noise in long-range people tracking

Part Number: IWR6843ISK

Tool/software:

Hello,

                                                                   (TI IWR6843ISK)

                                                                  (Custom board)

We used the same binary for all cases.

long_range_people_det_6843_demo.bin
(6843_100m_2D_advanced.cfg)

Here are the test results conducted using the visualizer in an open field:

We used a custom board based on the IWR6843ISK and applied the long range people tracking configuration. In the absence of people or moving objects, a point cloud continuously appeared from 0 to 100 meters along the maximum angle line of the beamforming.

We consider this to be noise.

We want to identify the cause of this noise and find a solution to resolve the issue.

  • Hello Joohee,

My first question is that is the antenna geometry of the custom board identical to the IWR6843ISK's?

    Best Regards,

    Pedrhom

  • Hello Pedrhom Nafisi.

I am Jeff, working with Joohee. I handle hardware design.

I will respond to your question on her behalf.

I am not very familiar with 60GHz radar, so I tried my best to follow the antenna geometry of the IWR6843ISK. I extracted the DXF from the Gerber file to make the antenna geometry identical to that of the IWR6843ISK.

Below are the Gerber images of the custom board.

    Gerber images.zip

There are many things I am not sure about, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Jeff.

By the way, the noise pattern that Joohee posted above appears during Boost mode operation but looks normal without any noise in Normal mode. The performance also matches that of the IWR6834ISK DK.

  • Hello Jeff,

We are willing to do a board review with you and Joohee, but this is not something we do online over E2E. I will reach out to you over e-mail.

    Best Regards,

    Pedrhom
