AWR1843AOPEVM: Device questions

Part Number: AWR1843AOPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, AWR1843BOOST, AWR1843, AWR1843AOP, IWR1642BOOST, IWR1843, AWR6843, IWR6843

Tool/software:

I have downloaded the sdk, toolbox, and studio and am not sure how to connect them to my device. Is there some documentation that I am missing or maybe a video to watch. Also other than the leds lighting up I am not able to sense the device being plugged in.

Please help.

  • Hi Gregory,

    You can go over the EVM user guide at https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/spruix8 and follow the steps there.

    Additionally, go over the steps in the SDK's doc folder to get more details on getting started.

    Regards,

    Ajay

  • Two questions first the device is not showing when plugged in even though I have tried both flash and functional mode. Second, when selecting the device option in uniflash I only see AWR1843 and AWR1843BOOST not EVM so do I download for AWR1843 or BOOST?

  • Also, I installed the silicon Labs Dual CP2105 USB to UART Bridge so what should I set the target configuration to?

  • Do I actually need a debug probe or can I run and get data off of the radar without it?

  • More like I do not care about debugging and only want to test the AWR1843AOP chip so how can I connect to it without needing the debug probe?

  • I have got it to flash and see what the flash is using tera term but I am not seeing any data it is just blank except for if I press reset where it will print what is running

  • Hi Gregory,

    You would have 2 COM ports visible in your device manager.

    While the COM port with name 'user uart' would send out just the log, the other port would send the Data.

    Could you please confirm if you see 2 com ports and see any data in the other com port?

    Regards,

    Ajay

  • I do not see any data from the other channel. However, I have a IWR1642BOOST and was wondering if I could use it as an xds110 debug? I am currently getting an error: Cortex_R4_0: Error connecting to the target: (Error -2062 @ 0x0) Unable to halt device. Reset the device, and retry the operation. If error persists, confirm configuration, power-cycle the board, and/or try more reliable JTAG settings (e.g. lower TCLK). (Emulation package 9.2.0.00002)

    The other error I am getting is: C674X_0: GEL: Error while executing OnPreTargetConnect(): Target failed to read 0x500006CC@System_View
    at gempwrsmcfg4_rd=*((unsigned int*) (0x50000400U+0x000002CCU)) [xwr16xx_dss_csdap.gel:152]
    at DSS_PreConnect_CheckResetStatus()
    at GEL_EvalOnTarget("CS_DAP_0", "DSS_PreConnect_CheckResetStatus()", 1) [xwr16xx_dss_init.gel:11]
    at OnPreTargetConnect()
    C674X_0: Error connecting to the target: (Error -6305) PRSC module failed to write to a router register. (Emulation package 9.2.0.00002)

    I was wondering if there was an easy fix for this.

  • I got past above errors.

    Using below E2E, I updated a version of the 3d_People_Tracker CCS project and switched all references of WR68 and 6843 to WR18 and 1843. I did this in both mss and dss.
    e2e.ti.com/.../awr1843boost-instructions-for-using-people-counting-demo-on-awr1843
    I built both files and flashed them to my AWR1843AOP board using CCS.

    When trying to run the Industrial Visualizer, with below config file, I get an output of b'' that is constantly repeating, until it gives an error saying that no data was read.
    C:/ti/radar_toolbox_2_10_00_04/source/ti/examples/People_Tracking/3D_People_Tracking/Chirp_configs/AOP_6m_default.cfg

    The user guide indicates that above config is for a 6843.

    Is there another config I should run for the 1843?

    Are there some steps to make 3D_people_tracking project work for 1843?

    Thanks
    Greg

  • Hi Greg,

    People tracking demo is not available on AWR1843.

    Ajay

  •  Device Compatibility

    This lab is only compatible with the xWRx843 family (IWR6843/AWR6843/IWR1843/AWR1843). For the people tracking offering on the IWLR6432, see the IWRL6432 People Tracking page

    Why does it say that it is compatible then?

    Is there a demo that is similar to this that can run on the AWR1843?

    I am trying to make a depth image with the radar and was wondering if there was a demo that would be the best to build off of?

  • Hi Gregory,

    AWR parts are for automotive applications. For Industrial/non-automotive applications IWR parts are recommended. Will make a note to update the compatibility section.

    Please raise another E2E with IWR1843 as the device, for support on Industrial/non-automotive applications

    Regards,

    Ajay
