AWR2944EVM: Real-only ADC Data

Part Number: AWR2944EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2944

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am working with the AWR2944EVM, which only outputs real (int16) ADC data. I've looked through some documentation and wasn't able to find the exact format of this.

What exactly is meant by real-only data and what is the difference between that and normal (non-interleaved) complex data? How can only I be generated and not Q? Is there some loss of information? Is there a conversion step is done that I have to reverse? I will need complex data for future processing.

When I used mmWave Studio to collect raw samples with the DCA1000, I noticed that the latter half of the chirp was imaginary. Is that the case here?

Another thought: perhaps the input to the range FFT is all real, but the output has to be complex. Is this the correct answer?

Sorry for my lack of understanding, still relatively new to radar. Thank you!

Best,

Aaron
