IWRL6432BOOST: IWRL6432BOOST Data port

Part Number: IWRL6432BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWRL6432

Tool/software:

This is probably really basic, but I have not been able to fix it for the life of me. I am trying to use the person detection demo on Matlab, and can not seem to establish a connection to the data port. While using the Hardware Setup from the Radar Toolbox Support Package I am able to flash the binary (or at least get a success message) but when trying to test the connection I just get an error. I tried writing and reading from the data port in a simple script but wasn't successful, and also tried connecting to the port via serial with Putty but was also unsuccessful. I really appreciate your help.

  • Hello,

Can you let me know the specific versions of SDK and/or Radar Toolbox you are using. If you're on Windows, can you check in Device Manager and ensure the serial ports show up correctly as seen here. If the ports look different then it's possible that updated drivers may be required.

    Thanks and regards,

    Josh

  • Hey Josh! Thanks for replying.

These are the ports I see. I am able to print a message to the UART port.

These are the addons I have on Matlab. I've also downloaded the mmWave SDK, but have not added it to matlab.
I wrote a little test function and it worked for the UART port, but not for the data port. I am sure it's something I don't know how to do, or I'm doing wrong.

I really appreciate your help. Best regards.

  • Hello,

Okay I think I understand the issue now. Currently, all of our examples for IWRL6432 do not use both ports. Both the configuration of the sensor and the output of the processed data happens on the 'Application/User UART' port. I apologize for the confusion.

    Best Regards,

    Josh

  • Right, but my main issue is that I can't even set up the person detection demo on matlab because when testing communication to the port via the hardware setup, i get an error message saying communication cannot be established with the port. I can flash the binary to the board, but nothing thereafter.

  • Hello,

I can not help you with any issues that you are having while trying to use MATLAB's tools. Please contact Mathwork's support for assistance with their tools. If you wish to confirm that there is no issue with your board you can try running the out-of-box demo with the visualizers that we provide. Refer to the Quickstart section in this guide

    Best Regards,

    Josh

  • Hi Jorge,

In the Verify connection screen, before clicking 'Test Connection', can you ensure that the board switches are in functional mode. If it is in function model, can you do manual reset(previous screen have the snapshot for the reset button)

After ensuring, it is in functional mode and you did a reset, try 'Test Connection' after that.

Also, can you check the chip version for your board, weather it is ES1 or ES2 chip version.

Also, as suggested  by Josh, can you try the  xWRL6432 MMWAVE-L-SDK: Motion and Presence Detection OOB Demo

  • Hi all,

I am closing this thread back up. If you want to continue to debug, please use the mathworks forum. You can even link it below once you open a thread. Thank you!

    Best,
