IWR6843AOP: Tracker response time

Part Number: IWR6843AOP

Tool/software:

Hello,

I'm using the IWR6843AOPEVM, with the mmwave_sdk_03_06_01_00-LTS 3d people tracking demo. I'm testing the time delay of the tracker output. A person is about 2 meters away. The person is quickly moving at azimuth angle changes ranging from 30 degrees to 90 degrees. I'm seeing a delay of about 1.5 to 2.0 seconds from the time the person arrives at the new location to the time the tracker output accurately reports the new position.

Is this tracker delay expected? Is there any way to decrease the delay? I'd like to get the delay down to about 0.5 seconds or less.

Thanks,

David

  • Hi David,

There shouldn't be nearly this amount lag between the sensor and the measurement - I would be willing to bet most of it is between the sensor and the visualizer. Can you confirm that the frame rate is as high as it can be (try at least 10 Hz or faster), and if there's still a problem, maybe try flashing an LED to indicate the person's position is within a zone to get a more immediate response? This should be faster because it won't require the computer to receive the info or process the graphics to show their position.

    Best,

    Nate

  • Thanks for the reply. I'll continue investigating this on my end.

  • Nathan,

I've confirmed that the tracker output is updating with every point cloud update. I used the GPIO2 LED to indicate if the target is left or right of the 6843 based on the tracker output. The LED is accurately showing the position about 100 milliseconds after the target moves. Thanks again for your help on this.
