HDC3022: Use of humidity sensor in low pressure environment

Part Number: HDC3022

Tool/software:

We are planning to use the HDC3022 temperature and humidity sensor in a low pressure environment.

If this sensor is calibrated using the provided calibration tables in an environment of 1013mb, how accurate will the humidity sensor be in a low pressure environment? Is a recalibration required if the sensor is moved to a low pressure environment, and if so, can the provided calibration tables be used?

We do not require high accuracy of humidity data for our application, an accuracy of ~2% would be sufficient.

  • Hi Paul,

Unfortunately we do not have test data for HDC3x to say how the sensor will work in a low pressure environment. What low pressure level are you planning to use the HDC3022 at? We have no reason to believe that the sensor won't work in low pressure conditions, but I can't say how the RH accuracy will be impacted.

  • Hi Alex,

We would like to use the sensor in a 30mb pressure environment. What would likely give better accuracy humidity measurements: recalibrating at low pressure using the tables provided, or maintaining the 1013mb calibration in low pressure conditions?

  • I think recalibrating is the best path. Do you have some way to simulate 30mb, in a chamber or something like that? What would do is use a humidity reference that is rated for low pressure, and measure it against the sensor to see how much the sensor deviates from the reference. It is possible to make assumptions on how the sensor should behave with a psychometric chart, but if you have the opportunity to measure the actual output against a reference that would be best. Which tables are you referring too?
